This section provides an overview of various types of DVB devices and the generic requirements for EUMETCast Europe and EUMETCast Africa, valid also for the future MTG and EPS-SG services.

In terms of interface there are three types of devices:

Generic Requirements for EUMETCast Europe
The generic requirements for the EUMETCast Europe DVB-S2 service reception devices are:
Symbol Rate: up to 33 MSps 16APSK, and 45 MSps for QPSK/8PSK.
Support for QPSK, 8PSK & 16APSK including all defined FEC codes for these modulations.
Support for VCM, Multiple Transport Streams, Multi-Protocol encapsulation (MPE).
Support for a minimum of 6 PIDs for the Basic Service and a minimum of 2 PIDs for the High Volume Service. Not more than 8 PIDs will be used on one transponder.
Support for minimum two MPE transport streams using the same ISI in VCM mode.
Users may need to procure/install/configure an additional network adapter in the host system if using a LAN DVB router.
A maximum output IP bandwidth of 50Mbit/s for the Basic Service and up to 80Mbit/s for the High Volume Service must be supported.
Please note that all devices need to fulfil the full specification as outlined above. Hence devices that just state "DVB-S2/MPE/VCM compliant" might not necessarily be suitable.
Generic Requirements for EUMETCast Africa
The generic requirements for the EUMETCast Africa DVB-S2 service reception devices are:
Symbol Rate: up to 45 MSps.
Support for QPSK/8PSK including all defined FEC codes for these modulations. Support for a minimum of 6 PIDs
Support for one MPE transport stream
A maximum output IP bandwidth of 80Mbit/s.
